Diploma in painting from CKP College of Art, Bengaluru. One year specialization in graphic printmaking at GHARHI - the National Academy’s community studio in New Delhi.
Solo shows in New York, London, Katmandu, Singapore, Hong Kong, Limousin, Le Havre, Dubai, and several groups shows in India. Major international participants are Sao Paulo International Biennale, Brazil, Fukuoka International Biennale, Japan. Dhaka International Biennale, Bangladesh. Indian International Triennale, Delhi. Cairo International Biennale, Egypt, and Florence International Biennale, Italy. He won many Indian awards that include the Karnataka State Academy Award, Kannada Rajyotsva Award, National Award and Venkatappa Award.
Special Award at Bangladesh International Biennale, Dhaka. Lorenzo de Medici Silver and Gold Medal at Florence International Biennale 2003 and 2005. Kerala Lalithakala Akademi – Fellowship 2008. Raja Ravi Varma Award from Government of Kerala, Department of Culture for his contribution in the field of contemporary art, 2012..
His works are in many private and institutional collections all over the world. His works are auctioned by Sotheby’s, Christie's, Bonham’s, Asprey of London and New York and by Lara Sati in Singapore. His works are in the collection of British Museum, London and Museum of Modern Art, New York among others worldwide....
After his diploma in painting from Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, Bangalore in 1972. Arakkal began exhibiting his works in solo shows and group shows in India and Abroad.
Solo shows abroad includes London, New York, Hong Kong, Katmandu, Singapore, Palo Alto - California, Le Havre - France, Limousin - France, Dubai - UAE etc.

Arakkal has won several Indian and international awards that includes The National Award, Award at Asian Art Biennale, Dhaka - Bangladesh, Karnataka State Venkatappa Award, Silver and Gold medal at 4th and 5th Florence Biennale respectively, City of Arad Price, Arad International Biennale - Romania etc.
Arakkal’s works were auctioned by Christies, Sotheby’s, Bonhams, Asprey of London, Lara sati etc.
